The WASKAGANISH ANIMAL WELLNESS CENTER CENTRE DE BIEN-ÊTRE ANIMAL WASKAGANISH offers culturally appropriate and accessible veterinary and welfare services focused on improving animal health and promoting responsible pet ownership in the community.
Our core programs and services include:
Preventative and Wellness Clinics: We provide scheduled clinics offering essential vaccinations, parasite control (deworming, flea/tick treatment), and routine health check-ups for all dogs and cats. This initiative is crucial for preventing the spread of common diseases.
High-Volume Spay/Neuter Program: This is a cornerstone of our mission. We offer highly subsidized or free spay and neuter surgeries to reduce the population of stray animals, significantly improving the overall health and safety of the community's domestic animal population.
Emergency and Basic Veterinary Care: We provide initial assessment and treatment for common injuries, illnesses, and emergencies. Our services focus on stabilizing pets and providing necessary medical interventions that would otherwise be unavailable locally.
Pet Owner Education and Outreach: We conduct workshops and provide materials on responsible pet ownership, focusing on animal nutrition, basic hygiene, secure outdoor containment, and animal behavior, all tailored to the specific needs and context of the Waskaganish community.
Animal Rescue and Rehoming Assistance: We work in collaboration with the local community to manage the humane rescue, temporary fostering, and eventual adoption/rehoming of sick, injured, or stray animals, aiming to find permanent, loving homes.
Community Health Collaboration: We partner with local leadership and health services to address the interconnection between animal health and community health (Zoonotic diseases), ensuring a safer environment for both people and pets.
Through these bilingual and community-focused services, the Waskaganish Animal Wellness Center is dedicated to fostering a healthier, more compassionate relationship between the community and its animals.
